The course seeks to match the diverse theoretical perspectives to literature with a range of textual strategies in order to allow students to gain interpretative skills within the respective theoretical model. A limited number of shorter texts will be read and re-read within the theoretical contexts of the New Criticism, Structuralism, Psychoanalysis, Myth Criticism, hermeneutics, reader Response, Deconstruction, Feminism etc. with a view to illustrating the interconnectedness and differences of the theories.
The seminars will focus on equipping graduate students with a diversity of critical approaches in order to prepare them for writing their graduation dissertation.
