Writing for Professional Communication

Assist. Prof. Lika Pishtalova
Lectures: 15
Seminars: 15
ECTS credits: 3

The course aims at enhancing students’ skills in a twofold way. In the first place students learn to recognize discursive and stylistic characteristics of functional genres, required by the specific contexts of institutional / professional environments. In the second place, the focus is on producing texts in those genres. Some of the materials envisaged are: documents of international organizations (particularly the UN and the EU), internal/external institutional communication – letters of intent, invitations, project proposals, recommendations, CVs etc. The course places special emphasis on project writing in applications for funding. At the end of the course students are expected to be able to produce full-scale project proposals. The approach is practice-oriented: students get hands-on experience in producing a variety of written genres. Assessment is continuous, based on individual tasks including a full-scale project proposal for funding from an international institution. The course is taught in English.
