Assoc. Prof. Dr. Julia Stefanova, Dr. Lubomir Terziev
Lectures: 30
Seminars: 15
ECTS:  4

The course aims to familiarize students with some basic patterns of successful communication. Teaching methods will exploit the interactive potential of an MA classroom. The basics of communication theory will be introduced in order to provide a set of interpretative tools. However, readings of literary and other texts will be pragmatically oriented. Analysis will seek to explicate various culturally determined communicative models.
Here are some of the subjects that the course will focus on:
– The speaker/writer and the audience
– Handling group conflict
– The subtleties of persuasive and informative speaking/writing
– Handling emotions and expressing feelings in relationships
– Presentation design
The students will be expected to practice close reading of a wide array of texts from different periods. Texts will be perceived as a source of information about cultural attitudes and relationships. Besides, student participation will involve preparing carefully constructed and effectively staged presentations. A presenter’s success will be assessed on the basis of her ability to control her audience and achieve a positive effect
The practical applications of the knowledge acquired are too many to be exhausted. Prospective advertisement writers, PR officers, TV and radio hosts, reporters and columnists will definitely benefit from this course.
