Talking to Each Other: Translating and Editing

Translation between any languages requires a range of skills and in this course we’ll look at translating all sorts of texts from Bulgarian into English (from journalism, brochures and reports through to lifewriting, fiction and beyond). We’ll also discuss specific linguistic and cross-cultural questions relating to language register, grammatical structure, idioms, cultural references and more.  Students will be given exercises and personal feedback relating to key skills including the translation of specific texts; the editing/rewriting of existing translations; the analysis and evaluation of existing translations.
