ECTS credits: 3

English Through Literature is an elective course based on a selection of 20th-century literary texts to be discussed in class. It offers first-year students of English and American Studies the chance to overcome inhibitions about speaking in English, and to learn to express ideas and develop arguments more confidently and more competently. It will encourage them to ask themselves more questions as they read, and to read on a greater number of levels. It will also help them to expand and vary their general vocabulary, and will introduce them to the basic vocabulary we need when we talk about literary texts – about the way we make sense of them, respond to them, and evaluate them.
